Where are you?
There has always been a suspicion that numbers of Rehabilitation Specialists are reducing. The Rehab Project Group, fronted by Guidedogs uncovered a figure of 550 - Rehabworker sought to examine this to either confirm or challenge the number.

In 2006, we canvassed all of our existing database, all Social Service (Sensory Loss) departments and most charities in the UK. The response was phenomenal and we compiled a list showing not only how many Rehabilitation Workers there are - people who have a recognised qualification - but also where they are based. At that time the figures showed that there were 459 'qualified' Rehabilitation Specialists. In 1994, although never accurately measured, the figure was deemed to be around 1250.
While the numbers can always be questioned, it does give an insight into the problem of staff recruitment and service delivery. The following chart shows our latest survey results from the December 2007 'poll' - 395
