Some Feedback on the 'Voting'.
We thought it would be good idea to pass on some of the information you have supplied via the voting page. For some time now, we have run a selection of polls on a wide range of subjects and while we realise the results cannot be taken as 'gospel' they do of course give a guide to the thoughts of Rehabilitation Specialists around the country.
The following are the results so far:-
Should V.I. rehabilitation be incorporated into another job role?
Yes 21% No 76% Not sure 3%
Not surprisingly you mostly feel that the role of ‘specialist’ should stay. This does not fit with the current thoughts on service provision – even the RNIB do not support ‘specialist’ workers for the group they represent, weird!
Who is responsible for the decline of the RW?
Social Services 20% Guide Dogs 40% RNIB 3% RW’s 17% Training Providers 11% Other 9%
This is quite staggering, although not an overall majority, 2 in 5 of you hold Guide dogs responsible for the decline of the RW. We’d love to know more about this and why you don’t hold the RNIB equally culpable. What is it the Rehabilitation is doing or not doing that makes them responsible?
Do you feel the Rehab specialist is dead?
Yes 19% No 72% Not sure 9%
Again, this is not surprising and shows an admirable resilience to accept any notion that the role is finished. What we’d like to see is more of you getting actively involved to influence the decision makers – at present this is not happening.
Do you feel valued as a professional?
Yes 28% No 60% Not Sure 12%
This is truly outrageous! 3 in every 5 of you feels undervalued as a professional, if we were more cohesive as a group – a professionally represented group – this would not happen. Is it ignorance, apathy or both? Maybe more?
Do you think O&M should be separate from other aspects ?
Yes 56% No 44% Not sure 0%
Pretty much split down the middle on this one – a great debate for the conference maybe?
